MXK Platform from Zhone Technologies to support Etisalat mobile backhaul

Oct 5, 2011

Several times we have written about Etisalat and its activities fiber optic telecommunication field in UAE. As part of its ambitious plans to cover the whole UAE and provide cost effective quality services, Etisalat has been trying to enhance the bandwidth of their networks. The long haul networks have been migrated to fiber optic networks. This transition and development of new fiber optic networks have created many job opportunities in UAE for fiber optic technicians and engineers.

We have reported that by wiring the whole UAE with fiber optic cables, Etisalat is materializing the dream of the whole nation by making it to the top of the FTTH penetrated countries. We are sure that such a bold decision to provide FTTH to all the homes in UAE needs powerful vision and strategy.

Generally, thepolicy makers in the Governments influenced by politicians and outsidelobbyists may tend not to go for a full-scale deployment of fiber optic technology. They may have their own reasons and justifications for pulling back their nations from going ahead with leading technologies. For many years we have been witnessing the determination of Etisalat to go ahead with fiber optic networksin full scale.

The results ofthe long term vision of Etisalat have started coming as we could see UAE’s name on the list of countries having highest FTTH penetration when FTTH council updated the global ranking.

Recently we read from Zhone Technologies that Etisalat will use the MXK platforms to support the mobile backhaul of LTE mobile network. Etisalat has been using MXK platform in their GPON Fiber to the home networks in UAE. Etisalat use GPON technology to provide high speed broadband services to its subscribers.

ZhoneTechnologies has been a leading supplier of broadband and Multi-services access solutions. Zhone’s high capacity FTTx multi-service systems include MXK, MALC and zNID ONTs. These solutions offer cost effectiveness and high performance to the telecom operators.

MXK platform was introduced in the year 2009. MXK platform has features such as density, throughput and switching capacity and is the first Terabit Access concentrator. MXK platform can support end to end voice, data, entertainment, social media, business, mobile backhaul and mobility services as per Zhone.

Zhone says Etisalat will use the MXK's ability to support Active Ethernet and GPON simultaneously to run mobile backhaul and FTTH services simultaneously through the system. Meanwhile, the Zhone FiberCell offering will provide network reliability.

Etisalat will use both the MXK and the Zhone FiberCell family as part of its efforts to enable a Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) link to each LTE mobile radio base station(RBS). Use of the MXK platforms will help enable Etisalat for transition of its existing circuit-based backhaul to fiber-based backhaul with minimal infrastructure overlay.

Etisalat’s fiber optic network expansion in UAE was helpful to many equipment manufacturers and solution providers to fight with the economic recession. The good thing is that Etisalat keeps on supporting the world economy by investing in new fiber optic networks.

Fiber Optics is Green!

Developed in the 1970s communication systems using optical fibers has revolutionized the telecommunications industry and have been played a leading role in the formation of New Technical Age. Fiber Optic communication is a method of transmitting information from one place to another by sending pulses of light through an optical fiber.

Fiber optics is the leading technology in the field of communication. Fiber has reached to the home finally by realizing the expectations for an unlimited bandwidth. Optical fibers still have unutilized potential for digital transmission. Learn fiber optics will give an edge and keep us updated with the technology. Watching demos, videos and reading more from internet is the cost effective option to learn about Optical fiber technology.
The fiber optic technology uses the light which forms an electromagnetic carrier wave. This will be modulated to carry information.. Optical fibers have clear advantages over other electrical transmission mediums. Optical fibers have largely replaced copper wire communications in core networks in the developed world and have been making inroads to the developing countries as well.

The communication process using fiber optics involves the following steps: Creation of the optical signal using a transmitter, relaying the signal along the Optical fiber, make sure that the optical signals do not get weakened, receiving the optical signal, and converting it into an electrical signal.Optical fibers are eco-friendly and Fiber optic technology is Green!
