This is not the first time we write about UTStarcom. At least a couple of times earlier we have written about UTStarcom. The first news was when they made an agreement with an Indian company to provide IPTV services. Also this year UTStarcom has won a major contract from BSNL, the largest telecom operator in India.
UTStarcom is a leading provider of interactive, IP-based network solutions in iDTV, IPTV, Internet TV and broadband for cable and telecom operators. A press release on December first week appeared in UTStarcom’s website says they have entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with Beijing BDA Network and Information Co., Ltd. to provide broadband solutions and comprehensive telecom technology services for a new affordable housing development in Beijing.
FTTH growth in China is progressing well and optical fiber consumption in China is almost half of the total global consumption. This indicates a strong growth in the field of optical fiber cable deployment within China. Broadband to Beijing E-town's affordable housing development marks UTStarcom‘s first project with BBNI. BBNI was established by the Beijing Municipality to manage and operate broadband networks and telecommunication infrastructure construction of large-scale industrial projects and high-tech developments of the Beijing E-town area.
It is estimated that the similar percentage of growth in the field of telecommunication especially in fiber to the home deployments. The local Beijing government believes it is important to continue investing in the modernization of infrastructure and residential developments.
China’s commitment to provide latest broadband technologies to its citizens is laudable and it is evident through the projects being announced and are being underway in China. While the mobile companies are expanding their networks, a strong backbone fiber optic network is required to meet the bandwidth requirements.
The affordable housing development area spans a total of 12 square kilometers. Phase I construction is scheduled to begin in early 2012, which is approximately 3.9 square kilometers. This phase comprises 160 residential buildings with a capacity of 18,387 households. The rest of the area is expected to be fully developed with a mix of residential and commercial buildings in the coming years.
The press release from UTStarcom says they will provide mainly the Ethernet Passive Optical Network solutions, Packet Transport Network solutions and set-top boxes to support the construction of a high-quality and reliable communications network to enable users to enjoy audio, broadband and potentially even IPTV services.
